Since 2015, LAF with the financial support from the UNHCR Rwanda is implementing the project: “Provisions of Legal aid Services to Refugees in Rwanda”. This project is designed to help refugee population hosted in Rwanda; legal aid services such as legal representation to refugees in conflict with the law or those who have been victims of crimes, legal education, legal advices, services related to birth registration, advocacy, etc.
LAF has recruited staff including legal officers and lawyers to provide legal aid services to refugees living in all 6 camps also those living in urban areas.
To build the capacity of its staff, LAF organized a training for legal officers and lawyers on civil procedures that are used in courts with the aim of providing to the participants’ useful knowledge that will allow them to provide quality legal aid services to refugees living in Rwanda. 24 participants attended this training organized for 3 days at Umubano Marassa Hotel in Kigali.

Participants acknowledged the importance of this training as it provided an opportunity to discuss on the provisions of the new law and the knowledge gained will help them to serve better LAF’s beneficiaries.
