In Her Own Voice: Amplifying Coverage of Women-Led Environmental Initiatives in Rwanda
Environmental Journalism Training Programme · Call for Applications
Are you an accredited journalist based in Rwanda who wants to produce compelling, data-driven environmental stories and bring greater attention to women's contributions to climate action?
The Legal Aid Forum (LAF) invites applications for a capacity-building programme that strengthens data-driven, gender-sensitive environmental journalism in Rwanda, with particular attention to women-led environmental initiatives. The programme is implemented by LAF in partnership with Thomson Media gGmbH and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
About the programme
The programme combines online learning, in-person training, production support and mentorship. Twenty (20) journalists will be selected through a competitive process assessed by a jury that includes an independent senior editor.
- Online learning: an e-course in Kinyarwanda on data journalism. Completing it is mandatory for taking part in the in-person training, and the certificate of completion is part of your application.
- In-person training: two workshops in Kigali on gender-sensitive reporting and on reporting about environmental and climate initiatives.
- Production support and mentorship: 10 of the 20 trained journalists will be competitively selected to receive production support of up to 10,000,000 RWF each, together with mentorship from experienced experts.
